Question: A gentle shot that just goes over the net is a…?

Answer:
Hi Mohd Salihin, thank you for your question.

It depends whether the gentle badminton shot is performed from the back of the court or from the front of the court.

  • If the shot is performed from the back of your court (your baseline), it should be a badminton drop shot. Picture 1 above shows you the flight trajectory of the shuttlecock for a drop shot.

A drop shot is performed with a gentle badminton stroke from the back of your court and has the shuttle flying across right above the net.

  • If the shot is performed from the front (near the net), it should be a badminton net shot (tumbling/spinning net shot). Picture 2 above shows you the flight trajectory of the shuttlecock for a net shot.

The spinning or tumbling net shot will have the shuttle spinning and tumbling over to your opponent’s side, right above the net. This shot is performed from the front of your court.
