How to determine what string tension to use before stringing badminton rackets?

Question: Racket – in which pressure I need to put string for Voltric 7?

Answer:
Hi Karthik, thanks for asking us a question.

The Voltric 7 badminton racket can be strung up to 24lbs of tension.

Your string tension should not exceed 24lbs for this racket.

Otherwise, you risk breaking it especially when you accidently hit the ground or if your racket clashes with your partner’s racket.

To my knowledge, you will not be able to claim for damages or warranty from the manufacturer in this case.

The Voltric 7 is a lower range badminton racket in the Voltric series. It comes in 4U (80-85 grams) only. 4U indicates a lighter weight racket as compared to 3U.

Rackets that are lighter are not able to sustain higher tension.

However, the Voltric 7 will be able to provide you with good control. On the other hand, the lower string tension will provide better repulsion, allowing you to hit more powerful smashes.

Basically, badminton rackets are strung between:

  • 20-23 pounds for beginners
  • 24-27 pounds for intermediate and high performance players
  • 28-34 pounds for world class badminton players

However, take into account the maximum recommended tension for your Voltric 7, which is 24lbs.

World class professional badminton players usually exceed the recommended string tension because they want higher performance from their rackets.

They wouldn’t mind breaking them because most of them are sponsored by badminton manufacturers.

I suggest that you read our guide on badminton stringing. After reading that article, you’ll have all the information you need about string tension in badminton. You’ll then be able to decide on the string tension for your Voltric 7 badminton racket.

However, these are just rough guides from the manufacturer and people’s experiences. In the end, you’ll have to test out the different string tensions for yourself to determine which tension best suits you.

24lbs is the standard tension for badminton racket and it is enough for using in competitions. Weight of the racket is another factor and we must always try to use payroll tax and TFRP light weight racket to play powerful shots.
